Amy,<<<RE: ""I love You" virus. I had an email with that in the title this morning, immediately deleted it."

I haven't heard it was going around again. Maybe someone is pulling your leg. >>>

From what I understand, these viruses are pretty easy to reproduce. I received one recently from a business acquaintence. The text of the email didn't make any sense and I was in a rush. I noticed an attachment and downloaded it. This particular attachment destroyed mostly files with a jpg extension. I had about 500 such files and they were all corrupted.

I trashed all those files and some of the other systems files that it had altered.

From what I understand, the virus is never in the text of the email. It is always a part of an attachment.

Now, I never download from the server (or open attachments if it already in my computer) any attachments from anyone unless if I am expecting something and the text of the email has to be relevant to what I am expecting.

I find it annoying to have to use a virus scan program each time I download an attachment. Besides, you have to be very current with the latest virus scan program - even then it may not help.

If anyone knows a more convenient way to guard against computer viruses, please let us all know.

These viruses can do a lot of harm and they are easy to pass on.

Mary
