Yes, there are. I was being somewhat flippant, perhaps because I see the arguments against the Star Wars project so overwhelming that the viability of the concept need not be taken too seriously.

The one big exception, of course, is the idea of protecting against a single, accidental release of a single ICBM.

We all know that there are various programs in place to interdict surface transport of such devices, as well as chem/bio devices, and that such programs have a lot of ground that must be covered.

But you needed to disconnect before the burst - your system is already fried if the sensors and the computers attached to them were active prior to isolation. A series of redundant systems could be built into all equipment, with a new system being brought on line two seconds after each preceding set of sensors, etc. were damaged, but weight and complexity start building up.
