Hi Poet,
Re: What's your take on the points made in the article? I.e. Rhodes article on nuclear power.
I've read Rhodes books on "The Making of the Atomic Bomb" and the followup on thermonuclear developments, "Dark Sun".
He is a very thorough, thoughful and intelligent commentator in the arena of nuclear energy. I take him at his word, as regards to the Foreign Affairs article.
I think that the United States really did take a wrong fork in the road in the 1980's when we abandoned nuclear power. Because it means that we will, for at least the next 3 decades, be at the mercies of the blue-eyed sheiks of Calgary, the OPEC crowd, religious lunatics in the mid-East and the maniacs who rule on trading desks in places like Tulsa (http://www.energynewslive.com/) who have no interest in running an over-all economy, but only in maximizing their profit, at the expense of the overall economy, as it appears today.
