My family got caught up in that little brawl. They fled the Irish potato famine in 1854 and came to the US. One of them was a 13-year old boy, James (my great grandfather). In 1862 he joined the Union Army in Illinois. (Fortunately, he had already married and had a son or most likely I would not be here.) In 1863 he was wounded and captured. He was treated well by his captors and made a good recovery from his wound.

Then he was sent to Andersonville Prison in Georgia.

He survived that hellhole somehow, but his health was ruined. He died in 1867 at the age of 23.

The Commandment of Andersonville Prison was the only Confederate tried for war crimes. He was executed.
