Nikkei ends down 27% on year amid gloomy outlook
By Risa Maeda

TOKYO, Dec 29 (Reuters) - Tokyo stocks fell on Friday, their last trading session of the year, with sentiment hurt by growing pessimism over the market outlook for the coming months.

The benchmark Nikkei average finished the year 27.19 percent lower than it began, its worst performance in a decade.

Notable among Friday's declines was mobile phone giant NTT DoCoMo , which stayed on a downtrend amid concerns that a new issue will dilute its shares' value.

The Nikkei ended the shortened session down 161.27 points or 1.16 percent from Thursday at 13,785.69, adding to a 0.43 percent loss in the previous two sessions.

Its previous worst annual performance was in 1990, when it slid 38.72 percent as inflated stock and land prices fell with the ending of the economic bubble era.
