As many of you know, I have been trying to pull together enough contributions to get a fitting memorial for Monica at the Blue Heron Theater in Manhattan. She sat on the Board of Directors, and the Artistic Director was a former teacher. She has been trying to get me to come up to New York to see a production from time to time, and was very attached to it. Anyway, today I learned that a contributor who wishes to go unnamed, and, in any case, is not associated with SI, has put us over the top. He sent me an e-mail, and I have received confirmation from one of my contacts at Blue Heron. We are now over $5000, and will come close to $6000 if outstanding pledges are fulfilled. I have asked to begin discussion about what is available for roughly that amount. We will be funding a facility, like the Green Room, where the actor's prepare, and have a plaque mounted to ensure that it is a proper memorial. The Blue Heron is in the middle of a capital campaign, to raise money for large projects like that, so it is a good time to get our bid in.
I was going to visit on the 28th, at the end of a trip to New York, but the weather was so miserably cold that I started to feel ill, and left earlier than expected. I did talk to the Artistic Director and Executive Director on the phone while still in Manhattan, and they are very eager to find an appropriate tribute, as Monica was their friend too.
I will try sometime in the spring to stop by, when I have another chance to get to New York, and report on my impression of Blue Heron.
