"So just what is SDMC OR MMC going to be used for exactly other than to listen to very expensive music for the very rich?"

SDMC is a very efficient way for users to pay for content, whether it be in the form of music, stock data, or full length movies. SDMC is also a convenient, efficient way to restrict unauthorized copying of data. For example, personal health records could be stored such that only the owner of the SDMC could access or authorize access to the data by a health service provider. These two applications are two sides of the same coin. The end result is that the user controls what will be on the card and who will be able to use the data on the card.

The only possible arguments against such widespread use are: (1) People should get all the music and data they need for free, notwithstanding the reality that there is no free lunch. (2) Individual privacy rights or rights to proprietary information need not be protected. Anyone who would seriously entertain either of these notions is, well, a bit far out for me.
