IMHO, all systems have their own weaknesses and the one they all have is internet connection.
Unless you settle for a Bloomberg with a dedicated data line. But budget for this one is $1500-2000 a month.
Keep that budget in mind, as subscribing for supplemental services easily add-up to a high total of monthly fees.

I am a TA-aholist, can't libe without RT charting and T&S.
Most probably, I will switch to eSignal very soon coz. many futures brokers have more or less a connection with that soft, allowing click and trade, or only provide RT quote with a eSignal subscription. This already accounts for $130/month.

So, my revised shortlist reads:

Cheapest overall:
Interactivebroker-Timberhill (clearing house or FMC?), Java based platform.

Cleanest interface, one click trade:
Peregrine (FMC) BESTDirect (direct Globex over FIX API)

Specifically daytrader friendly:
EDF Man (clearing house)M-Trade browser based

Specifically electronic trading, no frills, no trills:
Rosenthal & Collins (clearing house) RCG-Direct browser based (direct Globex over FIX API)

So, my next step in Jan will be to sign-up with some for simulated trading.
Although simulated trading is nowhere close to the real stuff, particularly on fills.
