Tim, the quality of sound differs allot by what type of sound card you have. If you and the other party have a full duplex system the quality of sound is pretty good. Is it going to replace phones anytime soon? Definetly not. However with improvements in silicon as well as software sure to come. It may one day provide serious competition.

Your right I only regarded it as free if you allready have an internet provider and pay a flat rate per month. Sounds like Canada has some laws that would be nice to see changed. They had the same rules in Japan until very recently.

I spoke to a gentleman in Vancouver very recently, he relayed a story to me I believe we will be hearing allot more of. Seems his cousin lives in South Africa and they call once a week and use their video system to stay in touch back home. Since they can only visit about twice a year the kids don't feel like their strangers to the family while their away. He told me if they didn't use this system it would cost them a fortune for the calls.

Another thing about the system Netmeeting. If you have a video phone but the other party doesn't they can still view you. My parents love to look at the grandkids growing but their a little reluctant about hooking up a phone on their end. It's only a matter of time until I convince them though. :-)

Regards, Michael
