It is impossible to know the truth because:

If their standard was applied inconsistantly, it doesn't mean the truth is unknowable, just that maybe they didn't discover it.
** Micheal Isikoff was incredulous watching the Broward recount. He observed ballots with dimples counted for Gore and same situation on ballots for Bush that were not counted
I don't see what this individual's emotional state has to do with anything.
** It is highly likely that the 19,000 over-votes in Palm beach were tampered with. Current reports suggest that hat the overwhelming majority of these votes were straight republican votes with a dual punch for president. Very old trick
I would like to know your source for "highly likely".....an unbiased account is what I'm after....while it could be that your interpretation is correct, or that these were, indeed, miscast votes....the fact is, so far as I have been able to discover, that the facts are still unknown.

One can throw any number out there about what might have been....5000 net Bush, 5000 net Gore, 5000 net Buchanan....these are only guesses with no physical evidence to refer to.

I don't know who is doing the checking you refer to, but I have read reports also that many were excluded from voting because their names were incorrectly stricken from the rolls. From what I can glean from the reports, this issue is probably a wash.
Having said that, I would be surprised if Gore actually wins florida in these "recounts" , since ALL of the heavily democratic areas are already counted and Gore is still behind. Only things left are heavily republican and split areas of the state. Then if you apply some sort of standard to Broward Co., any standard at all, and Gore looses votes.
The latest reports I've seen, and you quoted from one them, indicate that the count has not been completed anywhere and that it will take at least three more weeks.
I don't know if the entire truth of this election can be discovered. I believe that, so far, it has not. I also believe that the discovery process that is now ongoing through the efforts of the news organizations is more likely to get closer to the truth than anything that has occurred so far.
I hope that their efforts strongly point in the direction that Florida went for Bush, as that would be the least painful path for the country to walk. |
