Amyloid plaques represent the pathology with the highest correlation to the disease. The question of ultimate cause may not be particularly relevant if eliminating one of the organic events halt the progression of the disease. The idea at this stage of AD research is to attack specific enzymes which cleave APP (amyloid precursor protein) to form the amyloidgenic moiety.

The real question for me is whether there exists a definitive means to confirm Alzheimer's prior to autopsy. If this remains an issue, how can treatment commence?
