100,

<< What are your thoughts on the previous article >>

Well this closing line is pretty accurate ...

"Although animosity still exists between code-division and time-division camps, wireless carriers would do well to never say never."

To which I would add that it is time to ease the "animosity".

One thing that concerns me is that in order for CDG to gain admittance to 3GPP (which I consider VERY important to the future of 1xEV), the approval of the existing MRP's is needed. One of the MRP's is the UWCC.

<< all the talk about implementing EDGE when it was a forgone conclusion it would be DOA >>

Darned if I can figure out what is going on with EDGE. AWS was leading the charge for TDMA-EDGE. Seems to me that any economies of scale that may have existed for bringing it to market have dried up with the AWS move ... but who am I to say.

GSM-EDGE is another story. Seems to be gathering some momentum.

As for Cingular ... I doubt that they really have figured out what they are going to do about their combined mess of networks, and I'm sure they have not yet recovered from the AWS decision.

They are NOT blessed with anywhere near the depth of spectrum AWS enjoys, even though POPs are pretty decent.

... and we still don't know if DoCoMo will (attempt to) take a position.

"wireless carriers would do well to never say never." <g>
