Jenna: Weekly BioRollerCoaster - A broader array of biotechnology stocks move up on Tuesday 12-26-00 following last week's rally in the older and more fully-integrated companies (those marketing human therapeutics). On Wednesday and Thursday, biotech. stocks ended mixed. On Friday, 12-29-00, biotech stocks in general trended downward. However, the newer biotechnology companies appeared to have an edge, holding onto gains achieved earlier in the week. The BioBizNet Select Index closed the week up 2.31% reflecting strength in the stocks of many of the smaller and/or newer biotech companies in the Index. The Amex Biotechnology Index (^BTK on Yahoo, BTK.X on SI) on the other hand ended the week down 1.16%.
