Here's how I did it.
First, get System Monitor going. Click Edit and select Add Item... You want to monitor your swap file size. It's found as Swap File Size under Memory Manager. Once you're monitoring the Swap File Size, click Edit and commence logging by selecting Start Logging.
Now, get as busy with your computer as you're ever likely to get. Open all the usual windows, and work with all the usual data. Spend the day holding your nose to the grindstone. Stop logging. Check the System Monitor Logs for your swap file's maximum size. You can assume that it won't ever get much bigger. Record this number and convert it to "K" by dividing by 1,024.
Run SYSEDIT, and edit SYSTEM.INI window. Scroll to [386Enh] section and find, or insert ...
PagingDrive=C:
MinPagingFileSize=?????
(I removed the MaxPagingFile entry)
Changing the ????? to the number of "K"s you determined from System Monitor. Click to close, saving your changes.
For the new settings to take effect, you'll need to re-boot.

P.S. Sorry, I'm confused. I posted how to set your minimum swapfile size, a more difficult question I get asked more frequently. You asked for instructions on setting maximum size. To do this, ignore the Monitor part of my post, Run SysEdit, and just modify, or insert the MaxPagingFileSize=????? entry. |
