Neocon, You were very lucky to miss the snow. I don't have too many good things to say about Detroit, but one is that we miss most of the snow. This year is an exception. A visit to New York is great. I should go move often as I have business between you and there every month. Never seem to make the time. I would think if you were there for the big 2k then that would be enough. Besides you can see Clark anytime you want over the next 50 years. Dick is not normal. I hope that "Gladiator" gets some Oscar action. It was a very entertaining film and I found no fault with it. Action and character are a good mix that seems to become more rare each year. If the living half of Simpson and Bruckheimer team never makes a film again I won't mind. BTW, I read somewhere that Simpson had over 25 different chemical compounds in his blood. Amazing and sad. "Mean Streets" works in so many ways. I never looked too deep into it to find a single theme. I think that is actually a big part of its appeal. That everyones life is complex and what Scorsese does not show you is very interesting too. There were at least a dozen characters he could have spent 10 or 15 more minutes developing. I can't put Keitel's performance above any of the others. My question/complaint is that everyone should have known Johnny Boy was going to blow up. That was the only part I didn't really buy. I mean did Keitel's character just let himself be blinded by this? By his love for De Nero's character? No way, he was a mob guy. I have never known anyone as crazy as Johnny Boy. Not even half as crazy. Scorsese really had something with this film and of course "Taxi Driver" just took it to the next step. The lighting is incredible. As for the rest of the Oscar race, I have not a clue. Usually I can pick em, but this year I would do better with darts. HAGO TH
