I hate crowds.
Me too—thoroughly— though I can really enjoy them for about ten minutes.
I thought about doing [Times Square] this time because I would be directly on the Square, and because it is the true millennium. But the heck with it.
Good choice. I did it once. Never again. Too many dang people.
Gladiator, be it noted, is the last film that the estimable Oliver Reed made (the slave trader/former gladiator). It also boasts the first mature performance by Joachim Phoenix (Rivers brother, and particularly good in To Die For), who is turning into a fine actor.
Yeah. The guy did a decent job. He was pretty much in his scenes I think, though at times I detected him wafting away.
Russell Crowe has a deep performance as a righteous Roman, full of piety for his country, his home,and his household gods..........
Yeah. Not bad, though I wouldn’t exactly characterise his performance as “deep.” He brought the typical “Crowe melancholy” to the role, and that worked, I think.
I do not have a handle on Oscar picks myself. Last year was rich, this year, not nearly so full.
What took the Oscar last year? Was it “American Beauty?” Man I hated that film. What did you think about it?
I liked The Patriot a lot;
Yeah, but its a little goofy in several places. I mean, that scene where Gibson comes riding with the flag and junk was just a little too much to stomach. Why do you like this film a lot? As far as I’m concerned, there was only one excellent thing about it: Aunt Charlotte. |
