wayne,

well, without having heard back, here is an idea...

in response to this 8/15/00 prob posted elsewhere on the net: "This is the message that appears. 'ActiveX component can't create object or return reference to this object (Error 429)'"

here is the reply: "Eventually I found that the user needs to have DCOM95 installed on their PC for the installation of certian activex controls. Check to see if they have it installed ( find dcom*.* ) in the windows system directory. If they don't - Download the program from microsoft and get the end user to install it."

whether or not this is your solution, i can not say at this point.

however, you can search this page thepage.org for dcom95.exe and under win98 you'll find a microsoft download for it called

msjavx86.exe WIN 98 Updated Microsoft Java VM

for now, that's all i've got. will wait to hear more. any additional info (like you've already fixed the prob! <g>), or the exact error message (maybe you've already provided it), os, etc will help us.

[edit in: if you are running win98, suggest you run some of the win98 system tools to look for corruption. if you haven't used these components, one way to access them is....

start|programs|accessories|system tools|system information|tools...

then try things like 'system file checker', 'registry checker', 'directx diagnostic tool' and 'version conflict manager']

:)
