Hi Roger; I can't talk about the rest of Country, but
right where I'm at ( a one horse little town ) we
are getting WaveAccess on 2.1 to 2.6 GHZ , it don't
require a FCC license , it eliminates the cost of
the phone lines into the ISP..( which is the largest
cost to ISPs ) it has full ethernet LAN capabilities
and a range that's about 10 mi but can be increased
by the base station.
A lot of it's over my head but I know the
local guy setting it up and he is going to be rolling
before any DSL gets here.
Hell if IP switching keeps progressing I may soon
eliminate a phone line on my end as well.
A simple HF transceiver will hook me up.
Things are changing here faster than they are rolling
out the DSL. In this market getting to market first
is ( almost ) every thing , but if you borrow money
to pay your way and have to meet the interest payments
just as cheaper technology comes along it's a trap.
I can't say for sure , but with what I'm seeing with my
own eyes I damm sure won't be making any bets on
DSL players.

Ironically all the HF wireless stuff I've seen so far
is made by Lucent. She looks cash strapped and prices
on the equip are falling like a rock.
