First go to the equis site and get all the patches and fixes. Don't forget the patches for the downloader.

2nd, create a few sub folders under the "data" folder to go with the "sample securities" etc.

Open up those folders in the downloader and add ticker symbols.

Dowload data from your vendor.

Open MetaStock and open ONE of those charts and make sure you are using Smart Charts. Soon as you get a chart up, tailor it to your liking loading in whatever indicators you want, make the colors the way you want them etc. BUT DON't DRAW ANY LINES ON THEM!

Once you have the chart the way you want it to look but with no lines, forks, fib levels etc drawn on it, right click and select to make that the default setting.

If you do this, then all charts you do in the future will start off the way you want them and you can draw lines etc from that point on. No one told me this and I had to redo all my charts once I got my settings the way I wanted them. A big time saver.
