Spock,
RE: << ...there is NOTHING that mankind can do that surpasses nature's own ability to destroy herself.....>>
That "destruction" oddly enough appears a built-in facet of the system, and the height of irony, man and other beings use this tendency to work against it. I'm speaking of one of the primary driving forces in the universe, entropy change, and the inherent drive towards increasing entropy. Man and other beings use this tendency, harnessing it to do work to struggle against this selfsame tendency. In the end, unavoidably futile: the ambient temperature in the universe gradually approaches a point where it will be identical everywhere, calculated to be a few degrees above absolute zero.
Ours is a fascinating universe built on fascinating tensions, inhabited by beings operating largely unconsciously from a fascinating dynamic admixture of indwelling tensions. The resolution of these tensions is the primary determinant of the course of events.
All JMVHO...................
Fascinating, Spock, eh? <gggggggg>
