I am not arguing the finer points of moral calculation with you. Suffice it to say that perjury is not ordinary "personal lying".... General Douglas McArthur (remember him?)thought we should not get involved in Vietnam. This was not a clear cut thing. Remember, a lot of old Right Isolationists were skeptical of NATO, but their cause had been discredited by the role of the America First movement in holding us back from entering World War II. Derek is pretty much correct in saying that we could not just pull out, without jeopardizing our other alliance relationships, once committed.
