tom, philly has a very good defense. lots of teams have a good defense. take away mcnabb and do you see a team close to 11-5? i see 5-11 at best.
single handedly beating the redskins is not "not making mistakes." sure, every game isn't that great, but look at his supporting cast. he does the most with the least.
imho, the true definition of mvp is the person who is most valuable to their team. take away mcnabb and i see philly going from 11-5 to 5-11 (or worse). what single player makes a 6 game swing for their team? i can think of none, hence my conclusion.
btw, the reason you've reached the "not making mistakes" conclusion is b/c philly has no top level receivers or backs. none. i bet most can't name a back or a receiver on the team.
you say this lack of support hurts mcnabb. i say it shows how good he really is. put culpepper on philly. NO WAY they are as good a team. take faulk off the rams and they don't have a 6 game swing, all else being equal.
look what winning with defense, and only defense, gets you - a 21-3 romp and an unexpected early exit pass from the playoffs. i saw mcnabb take apart the tampa defense in a way that the rams couldn't do in last year's playoffs. it wasn't fancy, but it was effective.
ok, i can't argue against faulk being the best player, the flashiest player or the most prolific player. he is awsome. however, losing faulk doesn't turn the rams into a 4-12 team - not even close.
by the definition of how many marginal wins a player brings to his team situation, mcnabb, imho, is the man. nobody else is even close.
we get to see a real test of his star power (albeit, blue collar star power) next week against the giants. the giants have philly's number - no doubt. they dominated them, imho, during the 2 regular season games. great players find ways to win when they should lose.
i hope marshall enjoys watching the game from home. ;-)
