Lol, now I understand. We share something in common in this regard. I went to a very small (and religious) high school. It didn't stop me, and I tried to do them all. I never had any concern about it impairing my ability to be perceived as a "good catch". I do understand and those labels will follow you. Hope there were a few bigger schools (of fish) near yours.
I can't believe you didn't like Cage in "Moonstruck". He was the entire film to me. I am not the biggest Cher fan so he was the reason I went. "City of Angels" did not impress me one bit. I loved "Wings of Desire". Wenders has not done anything since as good. I forgot "Honeymoon In Vegas", but agree that one was fun. Really loved the part with the "Flying Elvis's". I have a good golf buddy who thinks he is Elvis and he gave the film his seal of approval -g- "Peggy Sue Got Married" was ok, but that theme has been done to death. I thought "Leaving Las Vegas" was outstanding. Figgis is going to have to work pretty hard to top that one. I understand the screenwriter did kill himself before the film was finished/made. Truth is stranger than fiction. "Bringing Out the Dead" is a good and interesting film. I think you might like it. Its a smaller film and that is maybe why it works. Worth a look and Cage is quite good.
I like Lynch, but what has he done for us lately? "Eraserhead" and "Blue Velvet" are way up there, but what else? I have known women who were better teases than "Twin Peaks". I think Fincher is a major talent and will have a long career. I think he got a little off the path with "Fight Club", but this is natural for a filmmaker trying to "out-do" his previous film. I gladly let my concern for reality dissolve with "The Game". I think he is going to surprise you with his films to come.
That must be why I don't remember that scene with the skating. I will look for it next time.
"Wild Things" is an interesting film. It had me fooled to the end, and I like that. It also has a bonus in that Bill Murray is in it. I think Murray is the funniest person on the planet. He has only a small role, but its good. Bill's golf book is an interesting read. I would read pages and pages and then just bust out laughing. "Rushmore" was a very interesting film and Murray was excellent.
Wow, those are some uncles. No stories like that on my side. My father (who is a real prick) and my grandfather (who invented the concept of prick) had a competitive sickness between them, but it was just between them. Other people were spared their attention, and that of course was part of the problem. I guess family is both a blessing and a curse. I am not ashamed to admit that I avoid mine. I didn't choose them and I don't enjoy their company. I have worked very hard to remove many of the potential "sins of the father" from my persona. I don't know exactly when it was that I realized just how wrong my family was about a large part of the world and how it works. I consider myself blessed to have at least recognized it, at least to a certain degree. Still no physical violence was ever directed towards me. Who knows how different your uncles would be had they had a more positive influence in their lives. Sometimes the die is cast and sometimes you can break it.
