The Raymond James forecasts for winter storage figures were published in mid November. That chart showed weekly draws indicating -255 BCF in storage by 4/1/01. They also said deliverability would start breaking down when storage breaks below about 600 BCF.

Since November draws have been considerably higher than their forecast. The trend will almost certainly continue with this weeks number. I estimate we are around 1700 BCF in storage today and at most 7 weeks from serious problems. If we don't get a major warming trend it's more like 5 weeks away. Unfortunately that's about when earnings start coming out for the producers so the politicians may indeed do something incredibly foolish.

I also envision the democrats attempting to pin this mess on Bush. They tried every trick in the book to steal the election from him, yet now they whine about how Bush is appointing so few democrats to his cabinet (Gee, I can't imagine why!!). It is unlikely to be successful because he will have only just taken office when the sh$^ hits the fan. Richardson will likely end up being the final scapegoat.
