WWS, Great article on the Pacific NW and power generation. I do believe though that the article underestimates the impact of Prudhoe Bay gas upon NG markets, particularly the Pacific NW...I personally think that the pacific NW should be in pretty good shape within five years, and a lot shorter time if you get good rains.

And remember our discussion of North Slope geology here about six weeks ago? The trend west to east across the North Slope is for lighter API gravities and larger gas caps. Of the massive structures sitting in Coastal ANWR, my guess is that a lot of those are big, big natural gas fields.

Also my guess is that a lot of the hydro dams generators can be rewired to upgrade hydroelectricity output. In fact a fair environmental tradeoff would be to remove two or three of the key dams to help salmon recovery- and then rewire the generators of the other major dams in the area.

There's a new technique developed in Eurpoe with this funky sort of plastic/cloth flexible material whereby the magnets at the rotor are only hand tied together. However this new material is so storng that it actually extends the life of the generator even though the rotor/magnets are only hand knotted in!

I saw the technique demonstrated on a 10MW hydro unit at Mormon Flats Dam near Saguaro Lake last summer in Arizona- pretty interesting....

And the article held another very critical figure -35 tcf of future annual gas demand. Wha that means is that we must discover the ENTIRE Gulf of Mexico all over again in order to satisfy that demand...

Think of what that means for oilfield service companies over the next five years.....
