Rich gives lip service to the idea that his family is the most precious thing in the world to him. So here he has the chance to prove that by backing off from attacking Fred. If he continues to attack Fred thus opening up a can of worms involving his own family, it will prove that Rich's ego and twisted agenda come first with him. Where his family actually ranks with Rich, perhaps it's best we don't pursue that.
