When I box I use the same account

My broker gives me four options when I trade:
Buy
Buy to Cover
Sell
Sell Short

I simply Buy instead of Buy to Cover.
I actually discovered this by accident on one of my early shorts when I did a Buy instead of Buy to Cover by accident.

The stock rose, and I decided to double down (sell the long, keep the short and double the short), but more shares weren't available.

As to the IRS issue, most of my trades (98% plus) are short term anyway, so I'm not concerned about the issue.

You all be careful out there
Ray
