Andy, Just got back from soccer tournament (we successfully defended our State Championship) and I did see the retinoid treatment for emphysema on CNN this weekend. Smart investors will make the LGND connection but on the street, such investors are few and far between so it may or may not affect LGND's price Monday morning. Of course the story hit the wires last week without much of a response. I don't think that the scientists are consultants, bit they are at Georgetown (where Peck is and several of LGND's retinoids are in trails). ALRT1550 is more potent that tretinoin (active ingredient in Retin-A, Renova, and Vesinoid) and I suspect that it will have fewer side effects (the side effects associated with oral tretinoin, Vesinoid, are significant). ALRT1550 is in Phase I trials at Georgetown. The regenration of lung cells may be related to the stbilization of lung cance by Targretin also (which is in Phase II/III trilas for lung cancer at Georgetown and many other sites).

The emphysema application is yet another example of why LGND will be a fantastic long term play. I would not be surprise to see ALRT in phase II trials for emphysema very soon (right after Phase I trials are completed). ALRT1550 would be used orally and if effective against emphysema (which I would put in the very likely category), LGND shareholders would have reason to smile. ALRT1550, like tretinoin, is specfic for RARs.

Henry
