Last year the cpu business was NOT by a long shot the majority of AMD's business and, though I know you'll hate to find this out, AMD made plenty of money: that is why the stock went over 39. I'm beginning to think someone over at AMD stole the candy from your cradle...otherwise, why the vendetta against this company.
Also last year, I bought Vitesse Semiconductor at 5 7/8 and sold it about six weeks ago at 33 1/4...now, if my calculations are correct, the return on Vitesse was slightly more than your return on mighty Intel.
The only reason I sold Vitesse was because I felt it had gotten too far ahead of itself to justify that price, gallium arsenide or no. However, since I bought Vitesse as a play on the telecom market, I wanted to reinvest part of that profit in a segment of the telecom market that I thought was reasonable: that choice was PAC/Ericsson/AMD.
If little one-product Vitesse could rebound and outperform Intel, then it stands to reason that other semiconductor companies have at least a chance to make it. The coming PCS bonanza is going to require a lot of chips and you can be sure that AMD is going to be supplying their share of them.
Actually, this thread is getting BORING...I know why I bought AMD and I haven't heard anything really constructive. This thread is supposed to be a discussion on AMD, not Intel.
As I say, Paul, I don't know what your agenda is but I suspect you got canned from AMD because they couldn't stand the repitious arrogance! |
