>> UF is a ltb&h gorilla investor but under the guise of portfolio management he reallocates his portfolio (but still maintains that his ltb&h philosophy is not violated)...

I re-balance my portfolio each year between December and February, when valuations normally peak, to avoid being overweighted in any single stock, but there are other other situations that may require me to sell some of my holdings:

1. I am in the second year of a substantially equal periodic withdrawal schedule, which, under the provisions of the Internal Revenue Service Code Section 72(t), allows me to make early withdrawals from my IRA without incurring penalty. I fund these withdrawals through stock sales and covered call writing.

2. A substantial portion of my holdings are in the form of LEAPS, most of which were the result of LEAPS Substitution Therapy. I view LEAPS as trading vehicles, not as part of my ltb&h program and sell them should they reach preset targets. Unfortunately, that has not happened in recent months.

3. In point of fact, I support myself and my family through investing, and do not yet have the luxury of being purely ltb&h.

>> so for all one knows he probably sold everything at the recent highs and is cash rich and waiting to do his next portfolio reallocation!

Due to the negative momentum present during December, I have elected to delay fully funding my 2001 IRA withdrawal, other than liquidating a portion of my gmst holdings. I chose to do do because of shifts in this Gorilla Candidate's fundamentals.

>> But in case he stayed with it - his portfolio is down today by about 10% or so...

I'd be extremely happy if that were the case, but not only do my Gorillas have very high betas, my portfolio's volatility is further multiplied by my use of LEAPS. The value of my holdings has shrunk by over 25% since I posted my allocations on 11/26/00. But in defense of the ltb&h strategy, even at today's levels, my portfolio has returned over 200% over the last 24 months.

Please note that those comments were made on the Curmudgeon thread, a recreational site where we practice a dry form of humor. A quick read of the thread header and faq will verify that premise, should you have any interest in fairly characterizing my remarks there.

>> I have to say that UF can be disingenuous...

You really don't have to, but you have on numerous occasions <lol>,

>> but he does not usually make asinine remarks. Is he losing it? Tax selling during December I can understand but tax selling in January?

The remark was made with humorous intent. I'll try to remember to insert grinnie thingies in the future to help guide newbie investors and humor challenged critics. I'd hate for anyone to lose money because they took an obvious joke seriously.

Assuming you have some interest in investing, if you have any other questions I can help you with, you can reach me by PM.
