Thanks, Fred. I hadn't heard of NECX before, but I have ordered from the CDW catalog by phone. I probably would have mail-ordered or internet-ordered this time also, but I wanted to check out the CompUSA store anyway. It's new and about 12 miles from my house, whereas the next closest one is about 25 miles away. I really don't like the bunker mentality there. Shop-lifters are a scourge on our society, and I think they should be dealt with more harshly. But OTOH, it is insulting to pull a product off the wall, put it into a customers hands, and then make them give it back because the store doesn't trust anyone to walk 10 feet to a cash register. I was wearing one shirt, no jacket, was carrying no hand-bag or briefcase, and I was not wearing a back-pack. There was no possible place I could have hid a bulky modem box. It seems like it would be far more courteous to simply have store detectives watching from behind two-way mirrors. And for pete's sake, they already had a security guard checking packages and receipts at the door! Well anyway, if that's the way they want to run the store, whatever. But I didn't like it.
