Globe says Falconbridge plans Norwegian job cuts

The Globe and Mail reports in its Wednesday, Jan. 3, edition that
Falconbridge will temporarily lay off about 100 workers at its Norway
refinery because of a reduced workload from a five-month strike at its
Sudbury nickel operations in Ontario. The Globe's In Brief column reports
that Falconbridge says the Nikkelverk refinery, which processes raw
material from Sudbury, will continue to operate at 50- to 60-per cent
capacity and the layoffs will not affect production. The refinery employs
500 people, reports The Globe.
