American Technology Corp. to Present Latest Speaker Technologies At 2001
CES; Open Suite Planned for Saturday, January 6 in Las Vegas

SAN DIEGO, Jan 3, 2001 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- American Technology Corp.
(Nasdaq:ATCO) a licensor of innovative new sound technologies, today announced
its plans for the 2001 international Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas
January 6-9, 2001.

ATC will have a booth (Las Vegas Convention Center, South Hall, No. 288) and
Technology Suite in Las Vegas and extends an invitation to shareholders and
other interested parties to attend an "Open Suite" from 6:30 to 9:00 p.m. the
evening of Saturday, January 6. The "Open Suite" will be held in the Marriott
Courtyard Las Vegas, located at 3275 Paradise Road, and will feature
demonstrations of ATC's HyperSonic(TM) Sound, Stratified Field(TM) Technology,
NeoPlanar(TM) Technology (formerly known as Planar Magnetic(TM)), and
PureBass(TM) sub-woofer technology.

ATC will hold private meetings during the show with current and prospective OEM
customers and licensees, focusing on the company's newest audio technology,
NeoPlanar. ATC's remarkable loudspeaker technologies are part of its
Intellectual Property portfolio covered by 89 U.S. and Foreign patents and
patent filings to date.

Terry Conrad, President of ATC, stated, "We continue working closely with our
OEM customers as tooling, manufacturing, and launch plans are prepared for
various commercial and consumer products containing our HSS and SFT
technologies. Based on our latest meetings with several of the world's largest
electronics companies and manufacturers, we expect accelerated growth in our
audio technology licensing programs and availability of OEM-branded products
containing our technology in 2001.

"We are proud of our 89 U.S. and Foreign patents and patent filings to date.
ATC's portfolio of powerful audio technologies and intellectual property will
continue to grow as further patent applications are filed and patents are
granted."

ATC's current audio technology licensees include HST, Thomson Multimedia (best
known in the United States for its RCA brand), eSoundIdeas (formerly known as
SOUNDIDEAS), and Authentic of Japan, a wholly-owned subsidiary of NEC.

The company's booth (Las Vegas Convention Center, South Hall, No. 288) will
showcase the latest additions to ATC's FM Sounds(TM) radio product line. New
sports-themed radio products and ultra-miniature cell-phone-accessory radios
will be featured before a potential audience of over 100,000 attendees
throughout the four-day show.

Tom Johnston, national sales manager of ATC's Radio Products Division, stated,
"We expect the strongest response and dealer interest in our FM Sounds
cell-phone-compatible radio models. They allow users with virtually any major
brand-name cell phone to take hands-free calls. Better yet, between calls they
can tune in their favorite FM radio station without the audio sources
interfering with one another. Because they are safe, compact, convenient, fun,
and very affordable, we expect these models to be our hottest-selling radio
products in 2001."
