AMD Rises After Report of Pact With Transmeta By TSC Staff 1/3/01 10:57 AM ET Advanced Micro Devices (AMD:NYSE - news) rose 7% in midmorning trading after CNET News reported that the chipmaker is teaming up with rival Transmeta (TMTA:Nasdaq - news) to break into the lucrative server market and take on Intel (INTC:Nasdaq - news). Transmeta was down 6.3%. Other chip stocks, after slumping at the open, turned positive. Intel was up 1.1% and the Phildadelphia Stock Exchange Semiconductor Index was up 2.4%.
