Jim, I think that is one of the best posts I have read in a long time. You were absolutely correct in distinguishing between past and future. Most of us HAVE booked some profits and diversified.

Smart move on Gold too. Not many people know when to cut their losses, including myself. Your decision appears to have been timely.
