Mary, RE: There is nothing fundamentally wrong with the economy

I would disagree.

The price of natural gas has quadrupled in the past year. This doesn't just affect the cost of heating your home (a majority of Americans use natural gas heat) but it also affects the cost of things like electric power, fertilizer, and a bunch of other manufactured goods. While many have correctly determined that we are much less dependent on the price of crude now vs 20 years ago, we are much, much more dependent on the price of gas.

Natural gas prices aren't the end all, of course. If the economy is fine fundamentally, GM wouldn't have reported car sales down 20% about an hour ago.

There are imbalances in the economy that will need time to cure. An interest rate cut isn't a substitute.
