I'm would never characterize Iran/Contra as the crime of the century. I would think the holocaust was the crime of the century. The Arms for hostages Iran/Contra deal was just a shortsighted, foolish end run of our nation's foreign policy. It was carried out by ideological nationalist extremists who never did understand why what they did was wrong. People convinced they are doing good, when they are actually subverting the law, are the most dangerous people to a democracy (imo).
