Greta, I don't disagree with a word you say.... Athough I can only accept understanding of others cultures to the point that they take a 17 year old rape victim and beat her to death while ignoring the other "tangoees." Then I don't care to understand much more of their culture. I think the more publicity this gets the more probable the event will take place. Is there a solution? Sadly, no. As to the caning as a tool. The young guy who got 4 whacks will remember those sounds, smells and pain for the rest of his life. I doubt it changed his personality. I doubt it made him a better person. But I bet it changes the lives of those around him that could have been caught up in his future behaviors. Can this child be saved? Who can do this? I really wish I had an answer. SHootie
