It might be different this time. I doubt (but haven't checked) that margin debt levels, corporate and consumer credit were at similar astronomic levels in 1998 as we have now.

With today's rate cut we now have the official ok to carry on and spend more than can be paid back. As long as Greenspan is around to float the banks maybe it will work. But look out below whenever Al baby decides to leave.

It's like a gamlber doubling down to make up losses, thats what the US economy is like right now.

Interesting that Japan is not moving up at the moment after todays exuberance in the US. Thats something to watch because the debt will never get paid off unless the rest of the world participates and starts buying US goods.
