I agree that Word 97 file incompatibility is a pain in the rear. I don't see any reason to upgrade. However, most offices will upgrade throughout, or save in old format when needed (that's what we are doing at company where I am consulting). Nevertheless, upgrade response has been overwhelming according to recent news reports. It may also offer an opportunity for Corel, but for those people still on DOS or Win 3.1 versions. Re Java: I still don't believe that office productivity suites are the killer app for Java. I don't see how they benefit from Java capabilities. If you do, please let me know.
