Hi Bob,
...the NDX has had these record setting rallies twice before in this decline, and yet we have not had a follow on 5% increase following the rally day... why will this time be any different?
Who knows? If we knew that, we'd have an easy time making money. That's the kicker of investing. We never know all the variables. Sometimes 1 + 1 = 2, which is normal, but sometimes, 1 + 1 = -2. We're always guessing. For example, the market could go up religiously every Friday for years, and then suddenly that's no longer the case. Some people would go broke because of the learned axiom, "always invest on Thursday and sell on Friday."
I ran a test a while back that focused on how UOPIX would have performed since 1985, if it existed then. In my test, it gained something on the order of over 10,000%. I'm very afraid of missing any part of that.
