Re the issue of blame let's set the record straight.

FWIW and FYI the 1996/97 Senate Finance Committee that recieved the Boskin Commissions finding and heard the testimony on the CPI sampling/adjustments had a Republican majority of 9 to 7.

Uh, 'ya know, I think if the Reps had wanted to stop this nonsense they could have done it right then and there or simply never engaged at all. But they didn't. What does that tell you?

(note: During the 1990s the Senate Finance Committee retained a Republican majority per the rosters I'v seen.)
