We appear to be at an important crossroads here. The Fed has cut discount rates twice in 48 hours, and today the market still acts as though it didn't care. Is it all just because of negative sentiment, or is there something fundamentally wrong deeper within?

Which companies were most affected by the initial rate cut? With current debt levels in the Telecom sector, the networking companies (JDSU, NT) seemed to benefit the most from Wednesday's rate cut.

My Dad often has a contrarian view of the economy and can be partial to conspiracy theories as well. His first reaction after learning of the most recent rate cut was "what kind of trouble could the Fed know about that might warrant such a reaction?" The Fed is usually pretty conservative in his actions. Caught a glimpse of some truly nasty numbers to come? Major hedge fund in trouble? Pending debt / bank / monetary crisis? Just a few things to think about, I'm not trying to do any scare mongering here.

I was turning bullish for the new year but after last night's rate cut and this morning's market reaction I am less certain. Now I am in "wait-and-see" mode. The stocks that I am watching fairly closely right now are the golds in general (specifically PDG but I also like IMG for longer-term value), and ATY for tech.
