Bruce, I share your suspicion there's something rotten in the banking/financial sector. This could explain the cut in discount rate last night. As you recall, the inter-meeting Fed cut back in Oct 98 was prompted mainly by the LTCC fiasco and to a lesser extent the Russian financial crisis.
