jas: One of the reasons I'm considering attending the conference is to get some background technical info on what the likelihood is of these tools working together. The other reason is that they serve some really good chocolate chip cookies at the VIAS conferences ...

VIASOFT's Bridge 2000 (reportedly) intercepts the I/O call and "translates" the data to the proper format prior to the user code accessing it. The programmer has to add one call to a subroutine to invoke that process in each program that will utilize it. The actual code references to the data still have to be changed, either manually or automatically.

MatriDigm's MAP2000 tool (reportedly) automates the changing of the code and the data to their own special format. Since Bridge 2000 would intercept the data and change it before MAP2000 got to see it, there would have to be a cooperative effort between VIAS and M/D to adjust MAP2000's input to VIAS' output. Maybe this is what VIAS has been doing in the background since the discussions were first mentioned a few months ago. However, I was under the impression that VIAS was working on providing the output of their "analysis" portion of the process as input to MAP2000. I don't think Bridge 2000 was part of that work.

I don't know anything about Peritus, other than what is on their web page. Can't comment on it. A major SWAG would be that for any tool to work with Bridge 2000, a modification would have to be made to either or both tools. Probably not rocket science, but maybe major effort.

Note that these are all my personal opinions, made by combining bits and pieces of info from several sources. I may be way off base.

Incidentally, the VIA/AutoTest was a complete surprise to me, so there's no telling what other tricks VIAS has up their sleeves for the rest of this week.

Not sure why you were reluctant to mention Matridigm?

Regards,
