Verizon-Vodafone?

There has been some talk in the British press that a merger b/w the two may happen in the near future. I site the Daily Telegraph in recent weeks. I assume they have talked to sources inside both companies as a basis for their report.

Question: The Daily Telegraph has mentioned that both companies want it to happen except they cannot agree on who would head the company...any Verizon employees have any insight as to whether a merger may or may not happen and if so which would be the merged company?

A Vodafone takeover would give Vodafone complete control over the US wireless assets, complete control over Omnitel in Italy, wireless assets in eastern europe as well as Argentina, Mexico, and some of the pac rim countries where they currently do not have operations. Based on past history I would assume the wireline and other assets would be sold.

A Verizon takeover of Vodafone would prevent Verizon from being dismantled and make them the leader in wireless. Although it would dilute their shares which Verizon has been very sensitive to over the years.

Any commments? Anyone?? This board seems to be very slow.
