If you were "big physics" would you want two chemists to take away you $10 B in pork barrel per year you spend on "Laser Fusion" and other high temperature fusion project (which will not lead us within the next fifteen years anywhere), of course they were laughed out of town, but the French were very happy to accept them, and there are another seven teams that I have heard of working on that.
