Intel Buys Potential Campus Site in San Diego, Paper Says
--From AOl.-- Cooters

San Diego, Jan. 5 (Bloomberg) -- Intel Corp. bought 31 acres in the long-vacant Scripps Ranch Business Park in San Diego, setting the stage for a corporate campus for the Santa Clara-based computer chip maker, the San Diego Union-Tribune reported.

An Intel spokesman said the world's largest chipmaker had no immediate plans for the site, which it acquired last week for $31.3 million, the paper said. Chuck Mulloy of Intel told the paper it was a ``potential growth site.''

``We have some operations down there now in some buildings that we rent,'' he told the paper. ``We decided to buy some land and figure out how we can consolidate those operations, over time, into a campus.''

Intel employs 480 workers in San Diego County. The Scripps Ranch site has the potential for 1 million square feet of office space, the paper said.
