Conservastism and academia may be incompatible. I can only personally testify for the last 40 years, but in that time span, it appeared to me that most academicians were liberal.
I believe there is a reason for this. Most of them are supported by the state and by taxes, so they have a bias towards big government and high taxes.

I hope their kids all vote Republican just to tick off their parent!
And the bad news is that their parents probably have to go considerably more to the left before things reverse coarse.
