"You've got a heritage of .. defending Southern patriots like [Gen. Robert E.]Lee, [Gen. Stonewall] Jackson and [Confederate President Jefferson] Davis," Gee. I thought Lee was generally considered one of the heroes of American history. An amazing general and a good man. Even the PBS documentary on the Civil War had good things to say about him. If a liberal icon like PBS can praise him, why can't Ashcroft and Southern Partisan? Stonewall was definitely an odd duck with odd beliefs, but quite a cavalryman. Davis was a good administrator working in very tough circumstances. None of these men were even accused of war crimes after the war. Oh, bona fides: My great grandpappy was a Union soldier. Where was yours when the bullets were flying?
